Jacques Ayherre, my grandfather, was born on November 17, 1928 in Biarritz. My grandmother, Jeanne Betachet, was born on October 27, 1928 in Arrauntz, a suburb of Ustaritz. He has spent much of his life preparing traditional 'Basques cakes". She had great talent for customer contact, so dealt with the money and cash. Together they had two bakeries, before settling in 1965 in Bayonne. Jacques knows by heart the recipe of the pie carefully preserved in a green notebook. He is shy and speaks French. Jeanne speaks with great energy and tell us in euskara-basque the family recipe, that she really doesn't know very well. They'll laugh, remember and fight over a little, as they have for sixty years.
