Etxalar - Traditional pidgeon hunting

The traditional pigeon hunting is still in practice at Palomeras of Etxalar. In this peculiar process hunters don't use guns and don't kill pigeons, they trap them using a net-based system. When a flock enters the valley, they first warn each other with a trumpet sound, and they start to frighten the birds by shouting them and making noise, to direct them to the net. This recording shows the entire process, from the arrival to the end (two horn taps). This time the pigeons escape.
