Lesaka - Zaku-zaharrak

The zaku-zahar (old bag) is one of the most beloved characters of the ancient cultural traditions are kept alive in Lesaka. During Carnival Sunday, the young men dress in sacks filled with dry grass, and with his face covered with a scarf, scare their neighbors and mairus (another traditional character) beating them with dried bladders. Meanwhile, the music marching band plays Plus Ultra (also known as Lesakako Inauteriak, unkown composer, and arrangements by Santiago Irigoien). This recording shows the last moments of the party with the band playing from the center of the Main square and the zaku-zahars, tired, releasing all the grass in their sacks, spreading it around the square.
